Flaming Skull isn’t a popular keyboard part manufacturer in the west, but in Asia, they make budget keyboard parts that shine, literally! I’ve got these Purple Night switches that I bought to swap out on my main keyboard and I LOVE them! Let’s talk about them.
Switch Type
The F.S Purple Night switches are purple and pink sparkly linear switches with a cross-axis and a cross-stem MX keycap slot. The switches have a five-pin set up and with any five-pin compatible hot-swappable keyboard.
F.S Purple Night Switches: My Thoughts
Price
These switches were bought from AliExpress for around $26 / 70 units. I needed around 100 switches so I bought two packs of 70 to give me plenty of room to break the switches by accident.
Packaging
The switches came in a bag, which is not my preferred method of packing switches. Without a hard layer and some padding, the pins on some of the switches were bent right out of the bag. Luckily, none of them were so badly damaged that they couldn’t be used.
Ease of Installation
They were very easy to install, as most hot-swappable switches are.
Sound Profile
The sound profile of the F.S. Purple Night switches is very satisfying. It’s got a good, deep, bassy sound to it. That could be due, in part, to the sound dampening foam in the keyboard that I’m using them with. However, they still sound really good. They’re very creamy sounding and with that deeper, bassy sound they have a very unique but creamy sound profile.
Ease of Use
These were very easy to use. I wasn’t quite sure how much force they needed to go in the slot, but quickly realized that if the push is requiring force then they’re not aligned right. Once I got them all slotted in and with keycaps on them, they felt very good under my fingers and were easy to use.
