I’ve been trying out all kinds of keyboards, focusing primarily on the budget sector. That’s been a unique experience that hasn’t always been the most pleasant, but remains interesting and fun. I tried the Rii RK907 Ultra-Slim Wired Keyboard because it was the cheapest keyboard I could find on Amazon. It represented everything I wanted to put forth with my budget bonanza event. So, let’s get right into what this keyboard brings to the table.

Rii RK907: My Thoughts
Like many of the keyboards I’ve bought for testing, the Rii RK907 got a good workout as a work keyboard and I also did some trials using it for gaming. With such a breadth of experiences with the keyboard, I feel pretty confident saying that for $9.99 it’s one of the better keyboards I’ve used. It wasn’t perfect and it didn’t make it into the rotation of regular-use keyboards, but for the price it was pretty much in line with what I expected. Let’s look at my thoughts in depth.
Price
It’s hard to beat the price of the Rii RK907. It retails for under $10 (around $12 after shipping and taxes) on Amazon, making it the most affordable keyboard on the website that I could find. (There were some others that advertised lower prices, but the price was made up in excessive shipping fees.)
Construction
As the price point might belie, the keyboard is extremely cheap. It has no weight in the hand at all, but that could be, in part, due to the ultra-slim form factor. There’s not as much space for weighty materials when using a keyboard this slim. So, a little bit of thinness and lightness is to be expected. Still, it wasn’t what I would want to feel under my fingers. It felt very much like it would break if I dropped it.
Keycaps
The keycaps feel fine for what they are. I’m pretty sure they’re ABS plastic, which isn’t my favorite, my any means. I prefer PBT but at this price point ABS is pretty much the only option. The legends are printed on and there are no LEDs to shine through. However, I would expect the legends to wear off if I used them seriously for a long period as they feel very cheap under the fingers.
Keyboard Mechanics
It’s a standard plunger membrane keyboard. I hate this entire type of keyboard so there’s no point in me making notes since it would just be a wall of unnecessary vitriol.
Problems I Encountered When Using the Rii RK907
So, first of all, the keyboard is extremely cheap, which is fine since it is a ten-dollar keyboard. Saying that the keyboard you bought for ten dollars is cheap is like saying “tree found in forest.” It’s expected at that price point.
The keys were also extremely heavy. I don’t have a way to measure the exact actuation force but I did find myself really bashing in those keys to get the inputs I wanted, especially while gaming. It wasn’t a pleasant experience under the fingers and made my hands really tired.
