What Are Pudding Keycaps?

You might have heard the term “pudding keycaps” and thought that meant that the keycaps were special, and they are! However, pudding keycaps aren’t really that special. They don’t provide a unique experience when typing and typically are harder to find in more ergonomic keycap profiles. Let’s look at pudding keycaps and see what these are.

What Are Pudding Keycaps?

Simply put, pudding keycaps are any keycap that has a translucent layer on the bottom edge of the keycap, allowing the RBG LEDs underneath to shine through the sides of the keycaps. Pudding keycaps allow the user to see the per-key LEDs on their keyboard more clearly by letting the light shine through the keycaps and making the keycap look a bit like a flan pudding. They typically have shine-through legends to match the shine-through sides.

What Profile Are Pudding Keycaps?

Tehcnically, any keycap profile can be made into a pudding keycap. However, they’re most commonly made in the OEM profile, which can be a turn off for users who prefer a more ergonomic profile like XDA or Cherry.

Are Pudding Keycaps Special?

Visually? Yes. In function, pudding keycaps are no different from the standard OEM keycaps you buy.
