Many uninformed people think that “a keyboard is a keyboard.” However, there are many different types and sizes of keyboards that offer unique features. Keyboard sizes are typically denoted in percentages, where a 100% keyboard is the full size with all the buttons and possibly extra buttons, and the size scales down from there. Many keyboard enthusiasts prefer smaller keyboards that don’t have buttons like Page Up and Page Down that most users don’t end up using. Let’s look at the different keyboard sizes.
100%
Keyboard sizes are presented in percentages, representing the percentage of keys that are present on the board and its overall length compared to the standard size. A 100% or full-sized keyboard includes all 104 keys with spacing.
96%
A 96% keyboard uses most of the standard keys with a few of the Navigation keys truncated.
90%
A 90% keyboard truncates all of the Navigation keys but includes all of the keys, including the NumPad. However, the 0 key on the NumPad is smaller on this size keyboard, taking up the same amount of space as a standard key rather than a larger space.
75%
A 75% keyboard doesn’t have NumPad or Navigation keys, but includes all other keys, including the the arrow keys and the function keys.
60%
A 60% keyboard has just the letters, modifiers, and number row. It does not include a NumPad, arrow keys, or function keys.
