SleepTown: Full Review

Getting to sleep has always been a struggle for me. However, one thing that helped me was hearing the sentence “Are you on your phone because you can’t sleep or can you not sleep because you’re on your phone?” Since hearing this little bit of advice, I’ve taken to utilizing more heavy-handed methods of getting me to put my phone down when it’s time for bed.

My Experience with SleepTown

App Notifications

One thing I noticed is that I have difficulty receiving notifications from SleepTown on GrapheneOS. This may be due to the reduced privileges that Google APIs have on GrapheneOS.

Shake to Wake

One feature that I really like about SleepTown is the “Shake to Wake” feature that forces you to shake your phone at varying intensities (chosen by the user) for a period of time before it will relieve you from the app’s jail and let you use your phone. I really like this as the extra movement helps me wake up. If the shake challenge is not completed within ten minutes of waking time, the building collapses.

Deep Sleep

One thing I needed to turn on was the setting to prevent the building from collapsing if the phone goes to sleep. By default the app is set to collapse the building if that happens, but GrapheneOS does not have the ability to turn off sleep mode, so I needed this option turned on the handle the Deep Sleep mode.

Is the SleepTown Premium Subscription Worth It?

I don’t have the subscription and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything from the app. It is both complete and satisfying in its free state.
