One thing that makes itself abundantly clear the moment you start playing gacha games is that people who like male characters suffer more than Jesus. I kid, sort of, but it really is true. If you want to collect and use male characters in gacha games, you’re almost destined to be locked behind synergies that you can’t maintain without depleting the important fund for future male characters.

That being said, there are a wide variety of games that cater to male-preferenced audiences, particularly in the adult scene. The new Ero-Labs game, ZeroWake Gates is super interesting and fun. I just pulled for the new Esper/Guide combo of Shin Seong-Il and Min Sihu because their story had a few things that made me interested.

Firstly both of them are older men. They both have gray hair and distinguished, mature designs. This is unusual in BL and yaoi where typically pretty boys and big muscular men reign supreme.

Secondly, the bottom is the big manly character and the top is the more feminine character. That caught my attention because a lot of games wouldn’t go there.

The other thing about this dynamic is that it flies in the face of the typical Esper (top)/Guide (bottom) dynamic that the game has displayed.

But when it comes to wanting to play games with male characters to drool over, you end up coming up short with a lot of games. Either the male characters aren’t good, or the gacha rates are obscene, or the male characters are constantly in re-run jail, and even once you get male characters, you don’t have the same flexibility in content that you would get if you pulled for the latest and greatest waifu.

I don’t know. I couldn’t think of what to write today. So, this will have to do.
