so i found the next new thing for me to be addicted to

if there’s anything all my friends know about me it’s that i have awful taste in media. just really, really dogshit taste. my favourite movie ever is the room (2003) and i will watch that pretty much whenever it’s my comfort movie, but i do a big watch party by myself (can’t have any humans ruining the vibe) with my cat every year with unhealthy snacks, tonic, and all the fun a guy and her cat can have.

however, i’ve discovered something new, interesting, and fun. this is gonna make me sound like a big dork, but i have fallen in love with chinese vertical dramas. they are so fucking bad. i cannot emphasise how bad and ridiculous the mere premises of these shows are. they are meant to grab you and hook you within 90 seconds. so, there is no time for exposition or plot build up. we go straight from “title card” to “woman steals her best friend’s identity and husband” in 90 seconds.

i don’t have appropriate words for how ridiculous and unserious these shows are. they do not even attempt to bridge the scenes well. they just jump cut between locations with no indication of passing time beyond the changing of daylight in the scene.

now i just love asian dramas. i’m a viki and iqiyi subscriber and i watch shows from all over. i love learning about culture and language through art and media. so, i was basically already on board for something like this. all that had to happen was the right ad had to cross my screen at the right time. i would tell you what i am watching but i do not remember the name because it has like 12 words in it and that’s too many for a title…
